Hi Peeps, I hope that you are all well. In case you were wondering, there was no post last week because it was my birthday and I was out celebrating! Here is part three of the bible study series on Psalm 23.
Verse two: He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures: Let’s think about this. All of God’s richness and fulness on the earth, God gives us richly, all things to enjoy 1 Timothy 6:17. All the blessings of this world, the mountains, trees, wildlife, produce from the land such as, fruit, vegetables, all food to eat, along with products that are made from what lies within the earth, minerals, precious metals, rocks, wood, that we use to make furniture.
- God has given us the ability to gain wealth so we can work a job to make money and provide for ourselves and our families.
- God has given us talents, special things that we can do to use for His glory, and it blesses us also.
- God also gives us pleasures for us to enjoy, the sunrise/set, the wonders of nature, music, books, crafts etc (the last two are for me 😉).
He provides for us constantly with a home, friends, a church. He is always watching over us and loves to spend time with us as we are His people. We could talk about the rich fellowship we have with our Father in heaven, He feeds us with rich nourishment of the word of God, with sermons in church, and it feeds our spirit and soul. It’s always abundant blessings, never sparse or barren, but it’s filled with all the richness of God.
He leads me beside the still waters: God leads those who abide in Him. He directs us so that we know the right path to take. He doesn’t show us the whole path but only the next step to take. His Spirit leads us to the still waters as God is the living water, as He spoke to woman at the well, He talked to her about giving her the Living Water (Himself) but she thought He meant the natural water from the well. If only she knew! Of course, she did go on to lead the whole village to Him.
It speaks about the river of life in the book of Revelation too. God is the river of life, the quiet but running water. Not the still, stagnant water the world will offer us, but the rich living water where we can drink in more of Him. Drink and be refreshed. Drink and be revived, drink and be encouraged because our God is with us!
We need the still waters when we are going through a time of spiritual dryness. We need the rich and nourishing still waters to revive and refresh us. We need the still waters when all around us is chaos and confusion, the still waters calm us and give us peace.
He is leading us to the promised land, along the way He provides for us, He refreshes us, He lifts us up, so we can carry on for Him. He protects and guides us, so we know the right path to take, it’s always the straight and narrow path as this is the only one that leads us to heaven.
