Psalm 23 Bible Study – part four

Hi peeps, I hope that you are all doing well. Here is part four of the study about Psalm 23.

Verse 3: He restores my soul: He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

He restores my soul: There’s a lot of verses in the bible about sheep and we often read about them going astray. They wander from the straight and narrow path and veer off onto another. When we sin, we veer from the straight and narrow path and go onto another road but when we repent, God always brings us back unto Himself and our soul is restored.

This is also true for the backslider, someone who once had a relationship with God but left Him, for whatever reason, and went back onto the wide road that leads to destruction Matthew 7:13-14.

God is faithful and always forgives us when we repent and turn our hearts back to Him. We read about this constantly in the old testament when the children of Israel would go back to their own ways in sin and idolatry, but when they realised the error of their ways, they repented, and God forgave them. So, their souls were restored.

We are always in need of being restored and our God is faithful to do just that. This is great news as without being restored we wouldn’t be able to make heaven our home.

He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake: Here again, we read: He leads me. As in the previous verse God leads us in paths of righteousness because we can easily stray from the right path. God, the Holy Spirit, leads us to church, to pray, to read the bible, to do the right thing. We can feel the gentle tug if we haven’t managed to pray during the day then He will remind us that we need to pray, to connect with God, and fellowship with our Creator. We are born with sin and even though we strive to do the right thing many times, we sometimes err in another direction, but God will lead us back on the right path as long as our hearts are right with Him.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to share,

Sarah. 😊
